Nike will generate more than 6.000 jobs in a new textile plant in Honduras

Starts the Nike’s new textile plant construction in Central America.

San Pedro Sula, Honduras, will be the headquarter of the “Proyecto Arena”, that at the same time will be the largest sportwear manufacturing factory in the región.

More tan 6.000 jobs Will be created in San Pedro Sula with this new plant, ensured the entrepreneurs of the Kattan Group and Tegra Global Corporation, investors of the Project.

The factory construction and equipment will´ve an invest more tan L.1.000 mmillions (US$ 40.465.120), Will be an industrial edification of 63.000 square meters, is located in the southwast of the city in the 33rd Street within the free zone of the “Inmobiliaria Hondureña del Valle S.A. (Inhdelva). Operations will begin in 2021.

Guillermo Kattan leader of the Kattan Group said that is an emblematic project for the city as it will mark a before and after in the textile industry according to the newspaper “La Prensa”.

The entrepeneur explained that as part of the expansion needs of the Tegra Global Corporation, with headquarter in Atlanta, Georgia, United States, they looked for Kattan Group to make the aliance, thanks to their business record of more tan 100 years of experience and the goodness that Honduras offers to the Sector.

In context: Nike will install their logistic center for America in Honduras.

Steve Cochran, CEO at Tegra Global , expressed that as a corporation they are looking to build a better tomorrow for the customers, employees, families and the comunities where they work, and the “Proyecto Arena” is being builded with that purpuse.

“Arena will be an transformative instalation not only for Honduras, but for the entire region and to stablish the company and the country like a global destination leader  in the forefront and sustainability in textiles and clothing” said Cochran.

Juan Orlando Hernández, president of honduras, participated in the event and together with Mauricio Oliva, president of the National Congress, Mario Canahuati, president of the “Asociación Hondureña de Maquiladores” (AHM), and María Antonia Rivera, minister in charge of the “Secretaría de Desarrollo Económico” (SDE), sanctioned the reforms of the “Ley de Zonas Libres” .

Hernandez expressed that a clear message has been sent to the world that Honduras has already taken the step to position the country as a brand in textile industry, clothing with excellent logistics and port infrastructure and also with quality workers.

«San Pedro Sula represents an example of strength, vision, planning and results,» he said.

Mauricio Oliva declared that the National Congress is accompanying the opening of thousands of jobs for Hondurans and recognized the investment spirit of entrepreneurs in the northern area.

«A new investment is an act of trust in the present and future of the country,which we build together and which constitutes development, opportunity, stability and progress.»

Armando Calidonio, mayor of San Pedro Sula,stated that citizens are witnessing how the Industrial Capital continues to grow and more now with an innovative and high prestige project.
