Construction of the Regional Master Plan Mobility and Logistics:

The l Sectoral Council of Central American Transport Ministers (Comitran for its spanish acronym) agreed to start, from this month, the work of the Regional Master Plan for Mobility and Logistics, a project that would take Central America to a privileged position in terms of mobility of burden and people.

The decision was taken in Guatemala during a meeting between the Vice Minister of Communications, Infrastructure and Housing of that country and head of the Comitran, Christian Aguilar, Eliud Ayala, Minister of Public Works of El Salvador and Roberto Pineda, Minister of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Services of Honduras.

Also participating were Eduardo Brenes, Vice Minister of Transportation and Road Safety of Costa Rica and Tania Isabel Díaz Flores, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure of Nicaragua.

Representatives of the International Cooperation Agency of Japan (JICA) of El Salvador indicated that these projects are of utmost importance to Central American logistics as a mechanism to reduce poverty and increase regional competitiveness, presenting a schedule of work for the construction of the Master Plan.

For their part, representatives of the Central American Economic Integration Secretariat (Sieca) said that the participation of the Ministries of Transportation in this process is imperative, urging them to take the lead within their respective countries, to promote the development of the construction of the Master Plan, as well as the Intersectoral Logistics Commission.

The Regional Master Plan for Mobility and Logistics will serve as a regional instrument to transform Central America into a world-class logistics platform, through the construction of a Regional Mobility and Logistics System, which enhances productivity, competitiveness, economic integration and comprehensive regional development.
